Camas District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Camas School District has set up a curriculum for all grades that ensures success in school and after graduation. Strands have been set up that allow students to build on prior knowledge as they work through the curriculum. The district follows Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts. The Science curriculum begins content instruction in first grade allowing students to have a basic understanding of life and physical science before entering middle school. By the time students reach high school, there are an increasing number of Science courses available allowing them to specialize their studies in that field.
We currently cover the following Camas-area school district: Camas School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Northridge District Curriculum
In elementary school math, students start the five core math strands in kindergarten and work through them until fifth grade. The strands in math are number sense, measurement, geometry, probability and statistics, and algebra. In reading, students learn phonetics, reading strategies and reading response beginning in kindergarten and adding skills through elementary school. Writing and the conventions of the language also have a strong emphasis and students are asked to write for a range of formal purposes.
The middle and high school curriculum is designed to allow students to apply the skills they learned in elementary in each of the core curricular areas and strands to content in each of the curricular areas. The district offers advanced and remedial curriculum in all core subject areas to differentiate for success based on student needs and goals.

Chalk Talk: Helping Teens with Career Goals
High School is the time when teens need to begin thinking about what they see as their future career. At this age they begin looking at colleges that will help them meet their goals, but they may not know for sure what they want to do in the future. Parents can sit down and talk with the teen to help them in the right direction. First, find out what they like to do and what areas they would like to explore. Parents can also find out what the teen values the most also. Even though these may seem obvious by observing the child, actions and what excites them may be two different things. Finally, take these feelings and do some research to see if there are any volunteer or internships locally where the teen may go to obtain some experience and to see if this is truly the direction they want to go. If not, look in another direction as there are usually several possibilities for each dream.
