Both school districts use the same curriculum for core academics, the Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge, and all students receive instruction in college and career readiness standards within their course of study. The magnet schools offer academy style learning environments which are smaller and the curriculum is more focused on specialized areas such as the Sciences, Business and Education, and Health Professions.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cameron Park District Curriculum
The English language arts and reading curriculum at Brownsville or South Texas Independent School District is used to develop the literacy skills that students will apply to all areas of their learning. Students study literature and there is now an increased focus on informational texts that cover topics like science or social studies. The goal is for students to be able to take away meaning and think critically about it from any type of text they read. They also learn how to look for bias and authorial intent in their analysis of a text.
While studying science at either school district, students look at the larger picture early in their education. For example, they may look at the human body as basic parts, such as arms, legs and head. As they progress in school they focus in on more specifics. By the time they graduate, they will have broken each area into very specific parts, such as the tissue, nervous system, various cells and the brain. By gradually progressing this way, the students learn how to break a problem or situation down into smaller, easier to understand parts.

Chalk Talk: Writing a Resume
All resumes start with the objective, which should explain, in one or two sentences, what the candidate hopes to accomplish in the job he/she is applying for and the skills he/she will bring in order to meet the objective. In this objective, the educator might mention how he/she will help students and talk about specific skills in teaching, classroom management, implementing instructional technology, etc. An example of an objective may be “to help each third grade student reach his/her full potential by implementing a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies and differentiating instruction to fit each child’s unique needs.” The next section of the resume will outline the teaching candidate’s education, including the specific degree(s) and certifications he/she has obtained and the universities at which they were acquired.
