Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Canal Fulton District Curriculum
The Canal Fulton mathematics curriculum was devised using the guidelines contained in the New Ohio Learning Standards. The curriculum seeks to promote the development of a strong foundation in mathematical skills and understanding. Elementary school learners acquire the ability to name numbers and correctly recall sequences of numbers. Students learn about basic numerical operations, such as addition and subtraction, with a study of multiplication and division coming in later grades. Learners work with base-ten, including exploration of double-digit numbers in order to get a grasp of the concept of place value.
In social studies, students in Canal Fulton gain a better understanding of world history, American history, government, geography, and economics. The economics strand of the curriculum introduces students to financial literacy skills. Learners explore topics like the stock market and clarify the role that banking and investment plays in the health and vitality of the American economy. - Box Tops for Education - Northwest Middle School has joined the Box Tops for Education drive. Parents who buy products with Box Top labels are encouraged to clip them and send them in with their child. All proceeds from the program will be used to buy school supplies for students that may not otherwise be able to afford them.
- Apples for Students Program - The Apples for Students program at Northwest Middle School provides much needed supplies like pencils, notebooks, and backpacks, to students and families who do not have the funds to purchase these items. Families who would like to donate supplies or who wish to work on packing the backpacks are encouraged to contact the school.
- Northwest Local Goes Mobile - Students and parents can now connect with Northwest Local School District through the district’s mobile app. Information about school events, delays, and closures is available through the app, which is offered for Android and iOS phones.
