Carbondale District and Curriculum
Carbondale Area School District, though small, provides a comprehensive education that prepares their students for career or vocation after graduation. In the elementary grades, students begin by learning how to interact in the classroom and with other students, learning the basics of reading, writing and math. With these skills in hand, students are able to progress in other studies such as science, history, health and physical education, and technology education. Beyond these courses, special education is offered for students who need it.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Carbondale District Curriculum
The elementary curriculum establishes the foundation that students need in literacy, mathematical problem-solving, scientific thinking and an awareness of social studies concepts. Students are exposed to these primarily through hands-on and directed learning tasks. For students learning English as second language, they are provided with the help they need in accordance with state law so that content knowledge is maintained with language learning. Students who find themselves needing added challenges are provided with gifted education options.
Junior high and high school students are introduced to more specific classes and provided electives more specific to careers or vocations that students intend to pursue. Students are able to take courses in the areas of math and science, business, health and physical education, French and Spanish, Computer classes, and many others. Students are offered the opportunity to study more advanced classes such as Honors classes and career-technical courses to better equip them for college after high school.

Chalk Talk: Tips to Getting Good Grades in School
Some students find it easy to get good grades in school, while others remain stuck, unsure of how to bring that grade up by one letter grade. Here are a few tips from a former student who received straight A’s all through high school. First of all, listen to your teachers on the first day of class. They will probably tell you exactly what you will need to do to succeed in class. Take notes in each class. As your teachers speak, they will often drop hints about what might be on an upcoming test. Each teacher will have their own way of emphasizing material, some may even tell you something is on the test. Always write these things down for further study and review. Do what your teachers tell you and strongly consider doing extra credit activities whenever it is offered if you have a lower grade than you want.
