Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Carlisle District Curriculum

Elementary students focus primarily on Core topics of math and literacy. Carlisle Area School District believes that if their students effectively learn to read, they will be able to use that information to learn all that they will need to in the future. Elementary students also have opportunities to learn the arts and they have regular Physical Education classes. As students’ progress through middle school, they develop a deeper level of knowledge in their core subjects and have more opportunities to join extracurricular groups of interest.

High school students all go to the same school where there are facilities for both technical and career focused students. Course and curriculum requirements set out by the Pennsylvania Department of Education are followed allowing students to get the Core curriculum as well as the many other courses in sciences, environmental studies, PE, arts, music, and much more. Chalk Talk: How to Study for a Test

For many, an impending test gets the heart rate up, the hands sweating, and sometimes a feeling of fear in the pit of the stomach. With so much riding on them and virtually no way to avoid them, how can you prepare for them so that you are ready instead of terrified of them? It cannot be stressed enough the value of paying attention and working material in class long before the test is announced. Depending on your learning style, you may find that simply hearing the material cements it in your brain while others need to write it down, see an example, or do a project that illustrates a concept. Whatever method works for you to retain information, use it. To prepare for a test, start by being familiar with all of the material along the way. When test dates come closer, begin reviewing. Flash cards, mimes, word plays, or mnemonics can help you remember information effectively. Finally, if anything doesn’t make sense, talk to a teacher or tutor before test day. These steps will assist you in being better prepared for your test.
