Carlsbad District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The schools in Carlsbad use a standards-based curriculum which provides a comprehensive framework for the teaching and learning within each subject. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Carlsbad District Curriculum
For instance, the Common Core Standards describe how the Language Arts coursework will cover reading of fiction and non-fiction texts, writing strategies, goals and processes, as well as other communication skills. The sub-topics of vocabulary development, reading comprehension and analysis, writing and revising are then detailed. This allows teachers to create lesson and unit objectives that correspond to the curriculum and also is aligned to state assessments.
Other subjects are similarly broken down into their core topics. In Math, the curriculum emphasizes the skills inherent to numerical operations, geometry and measurement, algebra, trigonometry, and statistics and probability. The Sciences describe the different major learning areas - earth science, biology, chemistry, physcis - and enumerates the expectations for learning in these subjects.
