Chalk Talk: School Nutritional Programs

Schools aim to provide nutritionally balanced meals at reasonable cost to students, staff and visitors. Major changes have been made to school meal programs in the past few years. Every child must now take at least one fruit or vegetable as part of the meal. New regulations have limited the servings of grains and proteins served to students. Desserts have been nearly eliminated from menus, while most bread is served whole grain.
