The English curriculum at Cascade Charter Township schools helps students learn how to create presentations, both written and oral. To begin, students learn the skills needed to share topics that are important to them. They also learn how to summarize research material in written and oral forms. Students continue on to discover how to carry out research on a topic they enjoy and then to translate it into a form that would interest an audience while remaining in their own voice. These skills will be useful throughout their lives.
One part of the curriculum at Cascade Charter Township schools is history. A variety of resources are used to make history come to life for the students. Included are literature, newspapers, films or primary sources. The students become aware of the people and events that make up this subject by using each of these resources. They also take the information from these sources to then research a person well enough to create a presentation for the class. Chalk Talk: Volunteering in the Classroom
By volunteering in the classroom, parents demonstrate to children that education is important. There are a variety of ways to volunteer. First, many teachers have wish lists for their classrooms. Check the list and purchase one or more of the items for the teacher. Another way to volunteer is to help the teacher with their web page. This is the way that many educators communicate with the families, however, finding the time to work on the site can be difficult for many teachers. If this is something that interests a parent, they should present their idea to the teacher. Another way to give is to share with the class a skill. Perhaps a parent likes working with plants, so they may help with a classroom garden or perhaps they can use a parent's skill will posting classwork or assembling a bulletin board. Any of these areas, and more, are ways that a parent can help the teacher with a skill, or time, while showing a child that the parent see education as important.
