Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Centreville District Curriculum
The fine arts curriculum in Centreville includes the opportunity to study music. High school students engage in a study of a variety of musical topics. In music theory, students learn how to read and notate music, as well as compose their own music. Musical performance is also emphasized. Learners acquire the skills to sing and play instruments with proficiency, employing various characteristics of musical sounds. This includes the use of varying tempos, melodies, harmonies, forms, and textures.
Centreville’s modern languages curriculum includes opportunities to study German, French, Latin, Spanish, or American Sign Language. In undertaking language studies, students are expected to become effective communicators. This includes developing reading and writing skills, as well as developing listening and speaking skills. Students work on honing these skills in several domains, including on an interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational level. Students also enhance their cultural and global understandings.

SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Why Technology Engages Students
As technology continues to increase its role in our daily lives, so too does it continue to be used in educational settings. Studies show that in technologically driven classrooms, students are much more engaged. This is because of the active participation inherent in using technology. Rather than sitting idly through a lecture, students are gathering and evaluating information. Rather than being delivered knowledge, students are instead responsible for making meaning out of the information they find. Another engaging aspect of technology is that students can see pictures, watch videos, and utilize other interactive tools to supplement their learning. Having these tools at their disposal lends to faster comprehension and a deeper level of understanding. Since K-12 students were all born in the Internet era, making use of the tools they use in their daily lives makes learning much more fun and relatable.
