Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cheektowaga District Curriculum
The Kindergarten through Grade 5 math standards help students build a solid foundation in whole numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals. This foundation helps students successfully apply more demanding math concepts and procedures and move into applications. The standards emphasize procedural skills to ensure students are learning and absorbing the critical information they need to succeed at higher levels in algebra, geometry, probability and statistics.
The New York State English Language Arts Curriculum is made up of three components: Listening and Learning, The Skills Strand and Guided and Accountable Independent Reading. Listening and Learning lessons include teacher read alouds, class discussion, vocabulary work and integrated activities. The Skills Segment teaches reading and writing. Student practice blending sounds (reading) and segmenting (spelling) Handwriting, spelling and writing instruction will also be included during this strand.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Team Sports
Team sports have numerous social, emotional and physical benefits for children living in today’s world. First of all they get kids, active, moving, healthy, and help combat obesity. Physical activities also force kids to leave behind their smartphones, tablets, computers, video and computer games, even for a short time and connect, communicate and socialize with other kids and grown-ups. Team Sports help teach youth important life skills such as kindness, responsibility, cooperation, compassion, patience, practice and persistence. Children can be very self-centered. Team Sports help children think of a group as a whole and teaches them to be happy for other player success since it is beneficial to the whole team. Athletic Coaches often become positive role models for kids. One of the most powerful benefits of Team Sports is that it encourages family time. Whether it’s practicing drills, shooting baskets providing team snacks or cheering your child on from the bleachers – team sports provides memorable, fun family time.
