Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Chickasaw District Curriculum

Solid instruction is a cornerstone of academic achievement in Chickasaw schools. In the teaching of Science in the primary grades, the students are taught self-discovery and work with their peers in the science classroom setting. Teaching young children to work with others in a team while doing hands-on activities is very crucial in this subject, as communicating ideas, sharing predictions, and discussing outcomes of experiments is what discovery learning in science is all about.

Teachers guide the students and model what hands-on and minds-on Science curriculum should “look” like so the students can learn the proper communication behaviors with their peers. Science is an exciting subject and it is important for the teacher to make it fun, challenging, and educational for the students. Within this subject, there are also many emerging learning opportunities in technology and engineering design, which incorporate math and help show students how these subjects may be relevant to their life and broader society around them.
