Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Chickasaw District Curriculum
Solid instruction is a cornerstone of academic achievement in Chickasaw schools. In the teaching of Science in the primary grades, the students are taught self-discovery and work with their peers in the science classroom setting. Teaching young children to work with others in a team while doing hands-on activities is very crucial in this subject, as communicating ideas, sharing predictions, and discussing outcomes of experiments is what discovery learning in science is all about.
Teachers guide the students and model what hands-on and minds-on Science curriculum should "look" like so the students can learn the proper communication behaviors with their peers. Science is an exciting subject and it is important for the teacher to make it fun, challenging, and educational for the students. Within this subject, there are also many emerging learning opportunities in technology and engineering design, which incorporate math and help show students how these subjects may be relevant to their life and broader society around them.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the High School Teacher
High school teachers vary from elementary teachers in that they are much more subject-specific. Besides the obvious age difference of the students they teach, high school teachers much be endorsed in a precise subject area of expertise, such as English, Mathematics, World History, Economics, or Chemistry (to name a few). High school teachers have a high level of responsibility, as they must prepare the students for college or the workforce. Shaping lives of high school-aged students is a very rewarding and challenging feat, and high school teachers take on that challenge every day.
