Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Childersburg District Curriculum

In Reading, the students are exposed to many types of novels and reading materials, both fiction and non-fiction. Focusing on true fluency and deeper comprehension, the teachers model and give the students plenty of practice. In order to develop the love of reading, the students in middle school have more freedom in choosing reading materials. Choices are given, along with accountability for what they are reading. Reading is taught in conjunction with writing so the students can continue to enhance their abilities, while at the same time increasing their appreciation for all works of literature.

The Math curriculum develops skills in problem-solving in all areas of the subject over the years. Topics in algebra, measurements and geometric thinking, data and quantitative analysis are started early and students explore these concepts with manipulatives and through real-life related experiences. In high school, students are able to perform more analytic work and develop reasoning and logical thinking as well.
