Chubbuck District and Curriculum

The curriculum focuses on required achievements for students, mandated for each grade level, leaving room for teachers to customize their lessons to best serve students. The goal of the school is to empower all students to achieve advanced levels of learning and become thoughtful, contributing members of a democratic society. Students are expected to demonstrate academic and technological competency, find an appreciation for the arts, and develop the skills necessary to live a healthy lifestyle.

We currently cover the following Chubbuck-area school district: Pocatello/Chubbuck School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Chubbuck District Curriculum

Pocatello/Chubbuck School District wants students to be ready for college, workforce training, and life in our increasingly technological society. To accomplish this, the district feels that students need the ability to gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and report on information and ideas in an analytical manner, whether they communicate orally or in writing. In each subject, students learn how to identify the resources they need to seek out information and the skills to critically read and comprehend information on a range of academic subjects.

Students are taught to conduct original research in order to answer questions or solve problems, and to analyze and create a high volume and extensive range of print and digital texts to accomplish this. Students conduct research and produce and consume media in their own lives, and the curriculum simply builds upon this. These skills will ensure that students are competitive when they enter the workforce or post-secondary education.

Chalk Talk: Fast Applications

Many colleges offer special, early applications, generally called Fast Aps, though each college might call it something different. These applications offer a quick turnaround; they promise to respond with a decision often in a matter of a few weeks. Fast aps are streamlined; they require little from the student. Often, no essay is required. Recommendations might not be required. The student applies and provides standardized test scores, and is either accepted or rejected. For a student who is well within the acceptance range for the college, a Fast Ap is a great option to complete an application to what is probably a safety school and be finished. But a borderline student might not fare so well. In this case, a Fast Ap that doesn’t require an essay or recommendations could really hurt a student’s chances since these things might well push the student into the accepted range.
