Chalk Talk: College Application Types

There has been such a proliferation of college application types in recent years that it can seem difficult to decide which is best for you. Early applications have many advantages: fewer students use them, so the pool you’re competing against is smaller. Colleges tend to favor them, which can help. There are often restrictions to early applications, though. Some only allow students to apply to one college at a time. Some make students agree to attend that college if accepted. They tend to have a fairly quick turnaround, though, which is useful. Rolling applications have the quickest turnaround. They don’t really have deadlines, either, which means students can apply more or less at any time and receive a quick response. Good old Regular Decision is still the most popular, though, and is how most of the students are selected.
