Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clarington District Curriculum
The expectations for learning in the core subjects of Math and English are established so that students reach high school with a firm grasp of the processes for figuring solutions and making mathematic determinations and are also able to analyze and communicate about information. These skills are developed from kindergarten through high school and Math and English are the subjects of the secondary level province-wide assessments as they are considered critical to success in all other learning.
Science is opening up to allow students more choices in advanced topics including Physics, Environmental Science, and pre-Engineering. The learning of the elementary and middle school years in which students are introduced to fundamental principles and basic content knowledge enables them to take on more rigorous offerings at the secondary level. They develop an understanding of the process approach to scientific inquiry and develop the necessary content knowledge to arrive at and test their hypotheses.

SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son’s confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.
My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

Chalk Talk: Helping Prepare a Teen for High School
High school is the final step, for many teens, before they feel they are adults. This can prove to be a scary time, but there are ways for a parent to help make this transition easier. First, encourage communication. This can be between the teen and the parents, or with their peers. Just help them to realize the importance of education to their lives and the opportunities that arise from this time. Also help them to realize the new opportunities that are available, either through activities, volunteering or even a job. The most important thing for parents to realize is even though these teens may want to appear independent, keep the lines of communication open so they can come to you with good things or with concerns.
