Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clark District Curriculum
The district has developed a curriculum that includes age-specific learning targets in nine subject areas as defined by the Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. By meeting proficiency in these core areas, students demonstrate their preparedness to be socially, politically and economically active members of society who have the problem-solving and critical thinking skills to take on life’s challenges.
The 21st Century life and careers curriculum is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to function successfully in the modern world. The critical thinking and problem solving strand focuses student learning on applying these skills to solving real-life problems. Students learn how to recognize a problem, identify resources for solving it and brainstorm possible solutions. They then apply these skills to summarize how governments and organizations take on problem solving, and identify the methods they use to do so.

Chalk Talk: How Kids Use Technology
Many kids today have laptops or tablets for entertainment purposes – to watch movies, Skype with their friends or play games. However, the power of these technologies can – and should – be harnessed to help them learn. While technology is expensive to purchase and maintain, in the long run, equipping your child with a tablet or laptop and electronic versions of their textbooks is far less expensive, especially for students in college. The additional benefit of not having to lug around a backpack full of heavy textbooks is a plus. And with constant access to productivity tools like word processing, multimedia and communications software, students can stay on top of assignments, communicate with classmates regarding class projects and keep themselves organized by creating calendars reminders for important dates.
