Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clarksdale District Curriculum

In Language Arts, the children begin by learning the basics from the beginning of their education. At first they learn how sentences are made up of words, then the differences between upper and lowercase letters. They learn the meaning of suffixes and prefixes, and how they work with a root word, to create a different meaning. When these students finish high school, they take the basic skills they have learned and add skills in writing, for instance, how to write their opinions, information or narratives, and the differences between them.

Mathematics introduces children how to sort and classify object as well as how to measure and count money. When students finish seventh grade, they will have added to their education by learning how to express answers in the simplest form, and how to convert numbers into decimals, fractions, mixed numbers and percents. This helps to prepare the different choices they are faced with in high school when they take courses in algebra, geometry, or statistics and probability.

Chalk Talk: How to Maintain Good Communication With A Teacher

In order to help keep the lines of communication open between parents and school, there are a few steps that need to be completed by the parent. A teacher needs to have the parents’ phone number and the times that they can be reached. If there are any issues that could disrupt a child’s life, make sure to let the teacher know, so they can watch for ways that the child’s behavior may change. Other things to keep in mind are to attend any conferences, read communications from the school and attend all school activities that the child may be involved in. With these few steps, it shows the student how important the child-parent-teacher relationship is.
