Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clayton District Curriculum

In Math, students develop skills like computation and data analysis, measurement and precision, proportions and ratios, and the ability to construct mathematical models. These are all strategies that students use in the Science and Technology courses available, and programs such as a Bio-Medicine Academy.

Language Arts provides a foundation in literacy, writing and communication that is also necessary for learning. Students are taught ways to gather meaning from different texts, create written works for different purposes, and to engage in critical thinking, listening and speaking opportunities. Analytic and interpretative strategies gained from these classes will impact the quality of work students do in Multimedia and Design Programs and similar options that are both interesting and helpful to students.

Clayton District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The schools in Clayton offer students a number of enhanced learning opportunities. In high school, students are able to pursue specialized pathways that emphasize a subject like technology, bio-medicine, and other career-related goals. For all educational options, students are required to gain proficiency in the core academic subjects traditionally offered at school.

The curriculum that is used is a framework that indicates clear standards of learning that students need to achieve at each grade level. These skills build upon themselves, so that students are proficiently prepared for the focused classes in high school. The core subjects of Math and English/Language Arts are particularly emphasized because of the ways in which the subject support all other content-area learning.

We currently cover the following Clayton-area school district: Mount Diablo Unified School District.

Keeping Informed: Recent Clayton Educational News

  • Digital Safari Academy at MDHS - Students in Clayton have the opportunity to go to any high school in the district, and the schools have a variety of program offerings. At Mt. Diablo High School, Academy style schools have been established to focus on the core curriculum with the integration of another subject area, such as the Graphic Design offerings at the Digital Safari Academy. The learning is in a uniquely small environment, and the quality of work created speaks to the high standards of the program.
  • Enrichment at DVMS - It is often said that the middle school years are the hardest, but that does not seem the case for middle schoolers at Diablo View. The Enrichment Program is full of activities that engage the imagination. There are regular Astronomy Nights, a Solar Car Race Competition, Newscope which is a quiz show on current events, a Sidewalk Chalk Competition, and field trips to meet local and professional sporting teams. That is quite a middle school experience.
  • Northgate PFC - The parent-community at Northgate is very active and provides a website that keeps current information about school and community events, workshops and planning discussions, program successes, Boosters fundraisers, and events that need volunteers.
