Clemson District and Curriculum
The School District of Pickens County “promotes high achievement, personal responsibility, and character development to prepare students for college, career, and citizenship opportunities.” They seek to provide a quality education in order to help students to become successful beyond the classroom. In order to do this, Pickens County has adopted the Common Core State Standards in Math and Language Arts.
We currently cover the following Clemson-area school district: School District of Pickens County.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clemson District Curriculum
The districts’ math classes prepare students to master each with greater focus than with past curriculum. They have changed the goals from a more superficial mastery of many concepts to a quality understanding of fewer concepts during a given school year. Rather than revisiting the same standards year after year, students practice fewer standards over a longer duration in order to gain a firm grasp on the concept and retain it over the long term.
Both non-fiction and literature are included in English Language Arts classes. Students learn how to read and synthesize a variety of texts, and practice strong writing skills. They are able to use the skills learned in their English language arts classes in other content areas as well as when they enter college and the workforce. Vocabulary acquisition is also a major goal of the curriculum and students are taught how to derive meaning through context and other clues.

Chalk Talk: When to Complete Homework
Like many families, you may be struggling with your children to complete their homework each evening. Studies show that completing academic work when it is light outside is directly related to their ability to be productive. As a result, it is important to complete as much homework as possible while is it light outside so that students can complete it faster, with greater quality, and so that they will retain more of their practice the next day. Help your child set a schedule that allows them to get their homework completed shortly after they arrive home from school so they can get the most out of their time studying.
