Chalk Talk: Importance of Summer Reading

One of the best things you can do for your child during the summer months is to read with them. Requiring your child to read independently is great, but reading with them is even better. For elementary age students, there typically isn’t any required reading, so whatever you can get your hands on will work. The library is a great resource, but the newspaper works well, too. Have your child read the comics to you and then discuss what makes them funny. To take it a step further, you can have your child create their own comics. Wherever you go for vacation, there are always opportunities to read. Reading together helps your child maintain their reading skills and creates special memories for the two of you.
