Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clinton District Curriculum

Clinton High School’s comprehensive curriculum is rigorous and competitive, with clearly defined expectations for all students. Teachers refine their lesson plans toward the needs of students to support and challenge them individually. Critical thinking skills are stressed across disciplines, as is analytical writing, science literature, and technical skills, so that students have the global skills and know-how they need to succeed in our increasingly global community.

Students are exposed to a variety of different texts, of varying styles and formats. They write intelligently and thoughtfully about these texts and can demonstrate strong communication skills in many forms. The goal is to produce students who will take responsibility for their own learning and beyond, so that they become engaged citizens who take control and demand success in their own lives beyond graduation.

Chalk Talk: Rolling Applications

The biggest drawback to college applications is the wait time. Students might apply early and still not hear a response until a couple months after the deadline has passed. Rolling applications are a different option. Colleges read Rolling Applications when they receive them and usually respond within two or three weeks. This means students are able to move on, either to deposit and agree to attend this college, or to set this acceptance aside and wait to make their decision. There are no restrictions to Rolling Applications, so there really isn’t a drawback. Colleges also don’t limit the application, so students are free to send recommendations, essays, resumes, and all their materials to help their cause, and still receive a timely response.
