Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Coachella District Curriculum

The curriculum in Math teaches problem-solving and reasoning through the topics of numeracy, algebra, geometry and measurement, and data analysis. In the Sciences, students learn skills, thought processes and principles across the different fields of science.  In the subject of Language Arts, students learn communication skills and strategies. They read both literature and non-fiction, write for multiple purposes, and develop strong listening and speaking skills.

The design of this curriculum helps raise critical thinking skills by the use of prior knowledge and reflective thinking. Higher-order thinking skills like analysis, reasoning and problem-solving are all brought about through this model of learning.

Coachella District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The schools in Coachella use a curriculum that provides clear and measurable standards of learning to promote high achievement. The standards for each subject represent the individual skills and knowledge that students need to develop in order to become proficient in the subject. These skills will be used in future years learning and so the statewide assessments serve to ensure students are meeting the standards.

We currently cover the following Coachella-area school district: Coachella Valley Unified School District.

There are classes that focus on arts and crafts, film, and social justice among many other offerings. This is also a great opportunity for a community member to teach a course that would add to students' high school experience.
  • Focus on Juniors - Juniors at Coachella Valley High School have a strong support system that has been put in place to help students find information about colleges, scholarships, awards and honors, and other academic extras that will help their college bound goals.
  • Site Council - The Site Council is an elected body of parents, teachers, administrators and other community members which oversees planning and programming for the district. Responsibilities for enrichment programs and other academic services are taken up by this council in an effort to promote the best interests of the students.
