In Collingwood, learning is guided by the Ontario Curriculum and centers on core academic learning which is enriched by innovative programs that are designed to promote students’ engagement in their education. As the curriculum is quite extensive, it also serves multiple purposes. One expected outcome is that students will acquire a strong base of knowledge across the subject areas and be proficient in the different skills and knowledge of English, Math, or Science. Another goal is to bring about higher-order and critical thinking skills like mathematic reasoning or the analysis of texts.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Collingwood District Curriculum
Students are taught on a continuum of learning from K-12 in the core subjects, building skills yearly. Instruction is all subjects uses project-based and inquiry-guided approaches as well as direct instruction and modeling of skills. Literacy and communication skills are taught in all subjects and students also learn how to research and evaluate information in their different courses. Students may find that entering a program like Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate which offer a college-level and internationally-focused enhanced curricular experience. Some schools offer programs in the Visual and Performing Arts and all students can take on in-depth courses in the Outdoor Education Program. There is also the Cooperative Education Program, with its Youth Apprenticeship and High Skills Specialist Majors which integrate work and learning, preparing students for both paths in their post-secondary pursuits.
