Colusa District and Curriculum

Colusa’s schools follow the California Content Standards which detail the framework of learning expectations and outcomes for students across all subject areas from kindergarten to twelfth grade. The goals of preparing students for college and career are central principles, but also that students are able to use technological and global knowledge to solve problems and think innovatively are goals of the curriculum.

Language Arts has been designed so that students develop strong literacy and communication skills. The curriculum focuses on the development of language skills, understanding of conventions, recognizing and creating structure in texts, and the ability to comprehend and analyze written information. Students are expected to develop their listening and speaking skills within this framework, which is accomplished through class discussion and presentations. Students are asked to write and develop foundational abilities through personal forms of writing, but will be expected to conduct research and write analytic papers in high school.

We currently cover the following Colusa-area school district: Colusa Unified School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Colusa District Curriculum

Math and Science, which are subjects that resources are increasingly focused on, have been developed so that students learn the process of discovery and finding mathematical certainty. In elementary and middle school, students learn the fundamental skills in these subjects so that in high school they are prepared to take on the more advanced subject-area coursework. For instance, in high school Physics courses students learn about principles of motion and force, energy, thermodynamics, and mechanical and electromagnetic waves.

Students are offered a number of unique learning opportunities, particularly once they are in high school. Students in Colusa have a number of courses that can introduce them to advanced topics in science and technology, engineering, and the social sciences. These courses help students develop a true sense of their goals for advanced learning and career pursuits, and the type of working they are capable of doing.
