Connersville District and Curriculum

The Fayette County School Corporation has taken on the implementation of Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts, and are using them to integrate learning in terms of problem-solving, procedural abilities, and literacy in all subject areas. The curriculum designates the key topics in each subject and then provides a scaffolded approach to learning that builds from the fundamentals on up to the ability to do analytic work. By doing so, students are more prepared for the rigors of college and more able to pursue their professional goals.

We currently cover the following Connersville-area school district: Fayette County School Corporation.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Connersville District Curriculum

The social studies curriculum includes courses that teach students about both their immediate and surrounding environment. In kindergarten, students begin to study about history as it relates to them and basic principles of the U.S. government are introduced. As students progress through elementary and middle school, they continue to learn about these topics and expand their awareness to areas such as American history and geography. In high school, students increase their knowledge in world events, history, and geography, as well.

Elective classes are available for students interested in the business and marketing fields. Students will learn basic principles and progress to areas such as business management and sports and entertainment marketing. The application of these principles and the ability to problem solve are areas of concentration, as well. Many of these courses also provide opportunities for simultaneous laboratory experiences or aligned with courses for dual credit.

Chalk Talk: Transitioning From Elementary to Middle School

Starting middle school is a big event in a student’s life. You may be starting at a brand new school, away from familiar teachers and friends. Although it may seem scary at first, having the right attitude can go a long way in becoming comfortable with your new surroundings. Students may notice that teachers are giving them more work in middle school than they did in elementary school. If the workload seems overwhelming, make sure to tell a parent or school counselor how you’re feeling. One of the biggest changes will be your schedule. You may be taking more classes and getting used to going to multiple classes a day with only a short break in between. Again, if you feel overwhelmed or lost, teachers and counselors are always available to help. Making new friends will certainly be on your agenda too. Thanks to the variety of classes and activities in middle school, you may notice that there are a lot of students who are different from you. Try to keep an open mind as you meet new people and you’ll be making friends in no time!
