Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Coppell District Curriculum
The Writing Curriculum begins with students understanding that there are verbs and nouns and how each of these words are used to create sentences. They also learn that sentences are the written form of ideas. After they learn these basics, they then start expanding their writing to include adverbs, adjectives and so much more. They use each of these items as they begin to write with a purpose and they begin to create poetry, stories and research papers.
The science curriculum at Coppell Schools shows students parts of their world in different ways. To begin, students learn plants by stem, flower, leaves and roots. Soon they learn about the details of each part, such as the vascular system or the petal, and reproductive parts of a flower. In high school students look at each part even closer by looking at the cellular level of a plant. Coppell High School offers honor societies in Art, Spanish and in the National Honor Society. Each of these groups encourage students to participate in community and school-wide service projects.
- Circle of Friends - Circle of Friends is a club that helps students who are receiving special educational services to grow stronger in confidence and security. The students receive mentoring services with other students and they are encouraged to participate in activities.
- KCBY TV - Coppell High School offers students in journalism and Analysis of Visual Media the opportunity to take part in KCBY TV. These students then help broadcast programming throughout the school each week on closed circuit television.

Chalk Talk: Preparing for SAT Math
Many students worry when they consider the mathematics section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test. There are ways that students can prepare themselves for this portion of the test. The first thing to consider is the classes that are being, or have been, taken. Before the SAT, students should complete Algebra and Geometry. Then they need to practice. There are study guides for the SAT which offer topics that are on the test, plus they have sample tests within these books. To help the student gain confidence and learn the skills, s/he should plan on taking each of the test in this book. Beware guessing on the SAT. This does not help if a guess is wrong. By practicing the student will become stronger and will need to worry less.
