Corcoran District and Curriculum

The community of Corcoran is served by five different public school systems. Depending on where they live, students might attend Wyzata Public Schools, Rockford Public Schools, Osseo Area Schools, Delano Public Schools, or Buffalo Public School District. Each of these districts share many common goals. Students in each district are held to a high standard of academic excellence. Likewise, each district works hard to ensure students have all the support they need to develop into fully functioning adults. Each district focuses on preparing students for college and career as well. With an emphasis on using technology for education, students in all five districts gain an understanding of how to harness the power of technology to improve their lives.

We currently cover the following Corcoran-area school districts: Buffalo Public School District, Delano Public Schools, Osseo Area Schools, Rockford Public Schools, and Wyzata Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Corcoran District Curriculum

The Language Arts curriculum integrates reading, writing, speaking and listening, media viewing, and conducting research to develop students literacy skills. When reading, students utilize their skills to comprehend multiple points of view on a single subject, to include the viewpoints fictional characters as well as characters in non-fiction works. In writing, students are instructed in a variety of styles of writing including persuasive, expository, and creative. They are also taught how to present and discuss what they are reading and writing about so that they have strong speaking skills.

Corcoran’s middle school science curriculum includes an examination of topics in life science. Learners examine organs, organ systems, and tissues to determine their duties in overall bodily functioning. Cells are explored, with students developing an understanding that cells serve different purposes, depending on their type. Cellular structure is another topic of study. Students identify various parts of a cell, and compare and contrast human, animal, and plant cells, noting the similarities and differences between them.

Chalk Talk: Universal Pre-K Has Its Benefits

Studies show that students that participate in pre-kindergarten reap long-lasting benefits. These students are less likely to be held back a grade, more likely to graduate from high school, less likely to need special education services, and more likely to read at grade level. Additionally, effective pre-K programs seek to address the social and emotional needs of children as well. As a result, children that attend pre-K classes are better adjusted, more open to change, and more socially advanced than their peers. They are also more prepared for middle school as a result of their successes during elementary school. These academic, social, and emotional skills allow children to perform at their best throughout their K-12 career, and prepare them for success in and out of the classroom as well.
