The district’s rigorous curriculum is centered on providing a challenging educational experience and excellent instruction.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Corning District Curriculum

The district applies curricular standards across coursework and grades with an emphasis on rigor, relevance and relationships. The Common Core Curriculum sets a standard of education across all public schools in New York State. The English and Language Arts program involves a progressive staircase of complexity in reading material including both informational text and literature, research skills, media studies, creative and expository writing.

In Mathematics, the new standards limit the subject areas studied in math to core topics including computation, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability. The idea is that students will develop strong math skills as they build on previously learned knowledge grade by grade level. The objective of the district curriculum is to provide students with the skills and knowledge base they need to be able to be successful in the work world and in post-secondary education.
