Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Corpus Christi District Curriculum

The Corpus Christi Reading curriculum begin with students becoming familiar with the difference between letters and words. Plus they learn the formation and the sound of each letter. This helps them as they then begin to learn new sight words each week. Before long they begin to study the elements, main ideas, and facts in a story. By middle and high school, these students will be ready to read many different genres of literature from many time periods.

The students of Corpus Christi each study the same topics in science each year. The topic becomes more in-depth as they become older, though. So when students are in kindergarten they will be introduced to matter, the next year they add energy to the topic. By fifth grade they begin doing experiments to discover the physical properties, as well as the boiling, freezing and mixing points of them. This prepares them for academic success when they enter high school.

Teaching to me is a lifelong process of learning about new strategies and knowledge, learning from students, colleagues and community. I believe that each student is a unique individual who has special talent, a learning profile, and an interest in new knowledge.
I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.
All students can learn when given the correct tools to be successful. I believe that a student’s success is not merely dependent on parents, students or the teacher. It is a collaborative effort that shared amongst them all.
