Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Corpus Christi District Curriculum

The Corpus Christi Reading curriculum begin with students becoming familiar with the difference between letters and words. Plus they learn the formation and the sound of each letter. This helps them as they then begin to learn new sight words each week. Before long they begin to study the elements, main ideas, and facts in a story. By middle and high school, these students will be ready to read many different genres of literature from many time periods.

The students of Corpus Christi each study the same topics in science each year. The topic becomes more in-depth as they become older, though. So when students are in kindergarten they will be introduced to matter, the next year they add energy to the topic. By fifth grade they begin doing experiments to discover the physical properties, as well as the boiling, freezing and mixing points of them. This prepares them for academic success when they enter high school.

Corpus Christi District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Corpus Christi Independent School District guides students on their paths to be caring involved citizens. To meet this goal the schools base their curriculum on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Through this, students are meant to develop a range of critical thinking skills and practically applicable knowledge that thoroughly prepares them for post-secondary life. Classroom learning is supplemented by various before and after school programs that help children build personal, social, and intellectual skills. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in various clubs, organizations, and sports teams.

We currently cover the following Corpus Christi-area school district: Corpus Christi Independent School District.

Chalk Talk: Fourth Grade Math

By fourth grade, students have constructed a foundation of math skills, beginning in fourth grade they will build on these skills. During fourth grade students refine what they have learned. The numbers that they work with in addition and subtraction become lager plus they work with long division more and more. In this grade they also learn how to discover patterns in geometry or with numbers, they also learn how to extend these patterns out. Probability skills are honed in this year, also. This will be a year of students realizing how much they have learned and what they can do with this knowledge.
