Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cotati District Curriculum
The development of all these skills are essential in giving students the jumping off point for some of the opportunities available. Many programs which are attractive to students bring together two or more subject area, or will offer challenge and project-based learning opportunities. These programs require student proficiency in the basic thinking skills – reasoning, analysis, choosing methods to solve problems – which the core curriculum serves to teach students.
The curriculum is organized around traditional subjects like Math, Science, Language Arts, History, and Foreign Languages. This broadly encompasses both a series of thinking skills and also a foundation of principles and concepts with which students are able to understand the world. Students develop problem-solving and process-oriented thinking over the years of their Math and Science education. In Language Arts, students become able to decode meaning in all range of text and to express themselves clearly.
