Covington District and Curriculum
The schools in Covington follow the Kentucky Department of Education Curriculum. The design of this curriculum is to focus in on major areas of learning with each subject and build students’ abilities from the elementary grades through to the high school level so that they gain conceptual and procedural knowledge in their subjects.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Covington District Curriculum
The Covington Independent School District remains in a process of innovating programs to increase students interest in learning. Covington Independent schools offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Holmes High School. This curriculum is designed to recognize excellence and teach advanced skills in basic subjects to better prepare students for post-secondary life in a technologically connected world.
Holmes Middle School offers Springboard which is a program designed to make all students ready for post secondary work. It provides a design to show students how to go about getting higher education and preparing for it. The program focuses on preparation in English Language Arts and Math. These core subjects are taught so that students are able to integrate the foundational knowledge of the reading and math and apply them to other courses.

Keeping Informed: Recent Covington Educational News
- Mayor’s Challenge - Students in Ninth District Elementary School after school book club raised money to create scholarships that will go towards books for college. This after school program has been recognized by the Mayor’s Challenge program and was subject to a news article in a Cincinnati publication.
- Compass Odyssey - Students in grades 3 to 10 can access a website called Compass Odyssey. The site offers access to many educational games and activities including, among many others, Football Math and Fraction Board game.
- Business Education - BEST (Business Education Success Team) provides generous support for the schools in Covington. They provide resources and help for the students and staff in the schools. Many volunteers make the work of the schools truly a community partnership.
