Cranbrook District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

Cranbrook is inside of the Southeast Kootenay school district, which includes Cranbrook, Fernie, Sparwood, Jaffray, and Elkford. This district follows the same curriculum as all other British Columbia school districts, a provincial program created by the Ministry of Education called Prescribed Learning Outcomes. The PLO sets a standard for students K-12 in each subject with the goal of a uniform level of knowledge, skills, and critical thinking throughout the province. Regardless of the school a student attends, he or she is challenged to achieve their highest possible potential. Teachers and staff members have very high, yet attainable expectations for all students. As a result, the district has a solid reputation for academic excellence.

We currently cover the following Cranbrook-area school district: School District 5.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cranbrook District Curriculum

This curriculum is flexible at the district level, so that administration is able to determine the best method of delivery of the program. Likewise teachers are given objectives to meet in case a subject is not covered by the Prescribed Learning Outcomes. In core classes, though, the PLO's detail a series of skills and knowledge that each student should become proficient at and classroom teachers have the flexibility to determine the best instructional method to deliver these objectives.

The Prescribed Learning Outcomes program also covers Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate studies. This particular district also houses the Kootenay Discovery School, a distance learning program, which offers more than 60 online courses either in addition to or in lieu of attending a public school. At the high school level, there is a strong emphasis on providing students with career-oriented and college-bound learning opportunities so that they are successful in their post-graduation goals.

If you truly want to hone your craft, consider attending an art school specific to your field. Not only will it help you improve your technique, but you will build a marketable portfolio as you learn the most important aspect of building an arts career: Networking. After all, nobody’s going to buy your art if it isn’t visible, so finding others with the same passion is mandatory for your career.
