Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Crete District Curriculum

In the area of Mathematics, students learn material along learning strands such as geometry. Geometric theories and models are communicated utilizing many representations of reasoning, problem solving, and making real-world connections with this area of mathematics. Describing the relations between and among shapes and objects, both two and three-dimensional is effectively taught by encouraging the students to identify the parts of the shapes as well as exploring congruency and symmetry.

In Language Arts, the students are responsible for the learning about word analysis. The use of phonetic and structure to read and spell text on the appropriate grade level is demonstrated by way of the familiarity of root words, prefixes, suffixes, and words of multi-syllables. The students are imparted with strategies to increase fluency when reading, as well as with skills such as accuracy, pacing that is satisfactory, expression, and appropriate phrasing.
