Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Crowley District Curriculum
The English curriculum is designed to progress step-by-step, to allow each student to become proficient in this area. The students begin by learning to write down their ideas, first in pictures and then in simple sentences. As they mature, the students learn how to place details in their writing to make their thoughts more complete. By high school they have learned to, not only create entire sentences, but entire papers that are aimed at their audience. This allows them to be able to write whenever, and whatever, they may need when they complete high school and face their futures.
At Crowley Independent School District the science curriculum aids students to explore the world around them. They begin by studying the broad picture of items. They then begin to break each part of an item down to examine it more closely. This may mean they discover what the cells of an item look like or find out what substances make up an item. Through this discovery process the students learn to look at items more closely before forming final ideas.

Chalk Talk: What to Expect on the ACT
When preparing for the ACT it is helpful to have a general idea of what to expect. The ACT tests a student’s knowledge of grammar, usage, punctuation, diction and rhetoric. They also look to see if a student can distinguish between words that are commonly confused. This test also tests math skills such as arithmetic, geometry and algebra. As long as a student has had two semesters of algebra, two of geometry and general math they should have a good knowledge base to draw from. Next is reading. It is expected that a student can read a passage in a short time and then answer questions. The science questions generally look at chemistry, biology, botany, physics and other sciences. Even if a student has not had these classes they probably have enough knowledge to do well. As far as a writing portion, the ACT is not looking for perfection, instead they look at the thesis, organization and support of an idea. With these in mind, a student has a direction to aim his studying.
