Keeping Informed: Recent Dallas Educational News

  • Dallas Theatre Civic Center - You can find a number of shows, performances and camps at the Dallas Theatre Civic Center. There are shows for all ages, some even offering workshops as part of the show time. Drams camps are offered during the summer for children ages 5-15, various weeks throughout the summer. The facility also offers many different rooms for birthday parties, receptions, award banquets, making the Dallas Theatre Civic Center a perfect multi-purpose venue for you and others.
  • Summer Reading Challenge - Paulding County School District is part of Georgia's statewide initiative encouraging students to continue their reading through the summer months. School children can be a part of “The Summer Reading Challenge” by reading for at least 15 to 30 minutes every day over the summer. Through a mobile device app or their webpage, parents and students can "Find a Book, Georgia" using the Lexile score on students’ state standardized reading test, making it easy to find appropriate books for every child.
  • Virtual Learning Opportunities - Students have the opportunity to take online courses during and outside of school of hours. Children in grades 3 through 12 can request one online course during the school day in place of a regularly scheduled class or choose to work independently during non-school day hours. Students must be registered and counselor and administrative approval is required. Consider online education as a means of a learning experience for your child.

Chalk Talk: Time Management – Even During the Summer

Even during the summer, children can learn or continue time management of their activities. Whether in sports, play dates, sports conditioning, camps or school-related activities, children should be able to get all their activities and responsibilities accomplished as they would during the school year. If your child followed a schedule during the school year, one (a little less formal or structured) could be made for the summer. Have your child mark down on a calendar when certain activities are planned. Any reading or projects that have to be completed before the school year begins can be included on that calendar, marking down the amount of time to be spent or set aside during certain days. By managing their activities and responsibilities at a more relaxed time of the year, students will maintain this skill during a busier time of year. And if just learning this organizational skill, the summer months are perfect for students to then continue it during the school year.
