Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Davison Township District Curriculum

The study of biology is included in the science curriculum. Students at Davison Community Schools study life through this subject. In this area, the students become familiar with zoology, botany, taxonomy, genetics, ecosystems, human body systems and how organisms change over time. They learn about how different ecosystems are independent and interdependent and what this means to each over long periods of time. They also discover and study cells, classification and dissection.

The Language Arts curriculum at Davison Community Schools emphasizes research, writing, literary analysis and presentation skills. While the students master each of these they also become independent learners while improving personal accountability and personal work ethic. They learn how to write their opinions in a well-supported, cohesive manner. Each of the students that graduate from this school, whether they continue their education or they pursue their careers, will use each of these skills throughout their lives.

The progression of learning in all academic subjects are detailed within the frameworks, and broken down according to the subject’s major topics. The goals within each subject become more challenging each year and require that students have a specific base of knowledge in order to be able to master the topic. Chalk Talk: Making College Affordable

The expense of college education can be daunting to many parents. There are ways, however, that schooling can become more affordable. Community colleges are one way. These are schools which have smaller campuses which help to lower their expenses. These schools include smaller classes for the student to attend and they can earn basic educational credits which are often transferable to four-year colleges. Another way to lessen the expenses is to help the child establish residency if the college they are interested in is out-of-state. Gap years are also popular ways to help students earn money before they begin their college education. Many who take a gap year are often more mature and prepared to shoulder the responsibility of a college education when the time comes. Parents can also talk to other parents or guidance counselors for further idea.
