Chalk Talk: Helping a Child With Homework

Children can often become overwhelmed with homework and parents want to help in any way they can. Instead of completing homework for them a parent can help a child get into a routine of doing their homework. Help them become used to expectations, including the time and place for them to do the work. By setting up a routine, students can face the task calmly. When setting up a routine, allow the child to have time after they come home to rest for a little while, and have a snack. By doing these things the child can be energized when they sit down to work. Make sure to supply a work area that is large enough and separated from distraction. The area should remain tidy and supplied with all that the child will need. It should also be well-lit. By providing these things a child can become more willing to concentrate on their work.
