Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Demopolis District Curriculum

Demopolis City School District has four schools, and each of the schools has a unique course of study, as the schools house different grade levels of students from grades K-12. All of the schools in Demopolis follow the state curriculum of the State of Alabama in the core subjects - Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science - as well as the electives that the students choose to take as they get older.

At the primary level in grades K-2, the students are exposed to and immersed in print. Through textbooks, story books, print around the classroom, and technology, the students are on their way to reading and writing. Reading and writing is taught every day as the students learn and develop these skills. The school follows a specific reading curriculum, and employs reading specialist to assist the instructors in meeting all students' needs.
