Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Derby District Curriculum

There are grade-by-grade standards in Math, Science, Language Arts, History and other subject areas that limit repetition and help students progress along clear strands of learning. The standards are taught as such a level that they can be internationally benchmarked, meaning they meet the standards of other high preforming countries so that the students can compete on a global economy.

Derby has an increasingly diverse population and the district seeks to find unique ways to incorporate all students and bring them from kindergarten all the way through to graduation. All the schools seek to provide a safe learning environment for all students through training of their administration and teachers. There is a strong emphasis on adherence to the Common Core Standards, and preparing students with the skill sets and knowledge-base necessary for post-secondary success.
