Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Dodge City District Curriculum
The Dodge City USD 443’s curriculum closely follows the Common Core Standards. The standards create clear goals and expectations of students in each grade level in English/language arts and mathematics skills. Students are challenged to learn material beyond memorization, to think critically, and to apply their learning to real world situations. A technology initiative has brought more than 1,800 iPads to the district to facilitate the Academic Enhancement Plan, which includes 5 components: reading, writing, mathematics, diversity, and technology.
In high school, students are offered sixteen career cluster paths from agriculture and architecture to STEM and logistics. There are honors and Advanced Placement courses that students may pursue in various core academics, which may lead to earning college credit while still in high school. The high school course offerings are designed to connect students with their post-secondary goals and provide them with relevant learning to prepare them for their college or career plans.

Chalk Talk: Making Learning Meaningful for Your Young Child
You are your child’s first and most important teacher. Every day offers new learning opportunities through the people your child meets, the places you go, and the situations that occur. Use those opportunities as ways to connect your child’s learning to the world around him or her. Encourage play with your young child as s/he discovers the world. Sing songs, play with blocks, and fill your child’s life with bright colors and sounds. Talk with your child at every opportunity to facilitate language development, and if you are bilingual, speak both languages to your child interchangeably. Even though constant talk may seem silly, verbal interaction with your child is vital to language acquisition. Provide your child with many hands-on play things to assist in developing her/his fine motor skills, even if it is as simple as a pot and wooden spoon as she learns how to create her own sounds and music. Using every chance to broaden your child’s learning and development through even the most simple of things is the most valuable thing you can do for your child.
