Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Dover District Curriculum

Mathematics is initially taught in elementary school to establish a strong understanding of the topic, and further expands throughout secondary levels of education. English Language Arts is taught starting kindergarten, exposing children to the basic concepts of letters and words. After grasping and understanding these core concepts, students are gradually introduced to more extensive material, working their way up to the ability to read and comprehend a variety of standard texts from both U.S and international repertoires. In addition to standard reading material which is mandatory, teachers are encouraged to introduced additional reading materials to further study and enjoy, adding to their literary knowledge as they explore the world of books and literature.

In addition to standard course curriculum for core topics, the Capital School District also has a curriculum for their library system, to adhere to the American Association of School Libraries Standards for the 21st Century Learner, and the Common Core State Standards regulations.
