East Haddam District and Curriculum

East Haddam Public Schools operates three schools in Moodus, CT: East Haddam Elementary, Nathan Hale-Ray Middle, and Nathan Hale-Ray High School. In order to ensure that all students graduate from the East Haddam School District ready for post-secondary school or the work-force, students participate in meaningful and rigorous tasks daily and engage in a challenging curriculum. Curriculum documents in the East Haddam Public School District provide a roadmap and framework from grade to grade and assess student-learning outcomes on a regular basis so that strengths and weaknesses are assessed.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the East Haddam District Curriculum

In Language Arts, students gain the ability to read and decode verbal communications, as well as construct and disseminate information in their language of study. By graduation, students are able to engage in their new language fluently. Public speaking skills are also emphasized, with students gaining the skills and the confidence to disseminate information to groups of people. Students also learn how to present in various digital formats, using technology (i.e.: the Internet) to produce and publish written work and collaborate with classmates, and gather and properly use (without plagiarizing) information from digital sources.

The East Haddam Public School District follows the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as the standards for language arts and math. Students in grades 3 through 8, and 11 will take the Smarter Balanced Field Test in Language Arts and Mathematics. Professional development is focused on prioritized goals and improved student learning.
