Educating Our Parents: Understanding the East Haddam District Curriculum

In Language Arts, students gain the ability to read and decode verbal communications, as well as construct and disseminate information in their language of study. By graduation, students are able to engage in their new language fluently. Public speaking skills are also emphasized, with students gaining the skills and the confidence to disseminate information to groups of people. Students also learn how to present in various digital formats, using technology (i.e.: the Internet) to produce and publish written work and collaborate with classmates, and gather and properly use (without plagiarizing) information from digital sources.

The East Haddam Public School District follows the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as the standards for language arts and math. Students in grades 3 through 8, and 11 will take the Smarter Balanced Field Test in Language Arts and Mathematics. Professional development is focused on prioritized goals and improved student learning.
