Chalk Talk: Classic Games Reinforce Academics

In a technological world, it is sometimes hard to remember that not all games require a computer, phone or android device. Some of the most classic board games are still around, and continue to help kids build reading and math skills (and learn to play well with others!). Word games like Scrabble, Pictionary and Scattegories build spelling, language and vocabulary. Uno reinforces colors, numbers and one-to-one correspondence. Hi Ho Cherry Oh incorporates simple math and counting skills. Games like Monopoly and Pay Day help older kids learn budgeting, math and reading. Also, games like Clue help children exercise deductive reasoning skills. When your student needs some extra time brushing up on skills, remember the value of board games.
