Educating Our Parents: Understanding the East Stroudsburg District Curriculum
Early learning is focused on core subjects and hands-on experiences with them. The objectives are stated broadly so that teachers may convey the lessons as they see best for their students. An example of an expectation for student learning would be that they understand principles of measurement and geometry, students break down geometric shapes into smaller units and learn how to find the surface areas, circumferences and volumes of shapes.
Once students reach high school, they are encouraged to take electives in these and other topics which pertain to their vocational or career goals. Not only are students offered a wide range of class levels including AP, Honors and College Prep classes, they are offered many elective courses in a broad range of topics which can be utilized to prepare them for their future. These include classes in Business and law, statistics and math, and many art and music courses. Other courses introduced at various lower grade levels include Family and Consumer Sciences, and World Languages.

Chalk Talk: Importance of Encouraging Cultural Diversity at Home
While schools consistently work toward providing a healthy and safe learning environment for all of their students, regardless of cultural background and other factors, fostering this attitude of acceptance at home can make a huge difference in the lives of your children and the children in their classrooms. One way that this can be done is by highlighting and celebrating differences within each culture. If children are exposed to other cultures through safe internet websites, museum exhibits, and people from other countries, they will learn that these differences are not to be feared but rather to be acknowledged and celebrated. Children who are exposed to other cultures at home are equipped and ready to embrace students in their school who come from a different language or cultural background. In this way, students can interact and learn from each other’s differences instead of shutting one another out.
