Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Edgewater Park District Curriculum
The language arts curriculum of brings together the newly adopted Common Core and New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards. Covering the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening, the language arts curriculum provides a sequential framework for students to build their knowledge and skills. The curriculum is integrated with history and social studies to integrate literacy into other areas of learning. The science curriculum was developed to reflect up-to-date, research-based scientific practice. Through hands-on, student-centered instruction, students are engaged because they learn by doing.
This philosophy is one that aligns with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. The curricular review process that ensures timely curriculum involves four phases: studying and collecting data on the current curriculum and practices, planning out strategies to improve the existing curriculum, implementing the improvement plan in accordance with a timeline, and reviewing and analyzing the whole process.

Chalk Talk: Raising You Child’s Self-Esteem
All parents hope for two things for their children, for them to be happy and healthy. Many will agree the ladder is easier done than the former. But there are ways to both discipline your child and let them know that they are loved. First, start by providing at atmosphere of love and respect. When you discipline, be sure to also be patient and understanding. By being clear and calm, your child will understand your intent is for their good. Secondly, create space for quality time every day. Whether it’s doing chores, preparing dinner, or driving home from school, asking questions and showing you care what they have to say will pay big dividends in the end. Lastly, just be yourself! Children tend to look to the adults in their lives to judge if a situation is safe. Just by being honest and comfortable with who you are will let your children know they can do the same.
