Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Edina District Curriculum

A major focus of the whole curriculum is literacy and mathematics as these subjects help student learning in all areas. Literacy, communication and problem-solving are all emphasized in their respective subjects. Technology is integrated throughout the Edina Public Schools curriculum. Video conferencing and cloud computing bring classroom themes to life by supporting in-class projects. Technology Education, Applied Science and Video Production classes enhance digital learning.

Additional instructional support is offered through the Success Center as well as through a Gifted program and Special Education department. Differentiated learning, taking into consideration the individual skill set of each student, is fundamental to the Edina Public Schools. Classes range in variety such as Photography, Japanese, and International Foods in order to expose students to a wide range of topics.

With increasing state budget cuts, schools are searching for additional revenue streams and many have opted to establish nonprofit foundations. Through these 501c3 organizations, members of the community can donate tax-deductible funds. While taxpayers may be hesitant to contribute, schools are looking to create incentives and tributes to alumni in order to fundraise. Foundations are a way to bring the community, parents and teachers together in support of a common cause.
