Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Edmond District Curriculum

In Math, the students in K-12 are instructed with material such as algebraic operations. Algebra is a precursor to the higher math courses that are offered in Edmond Public Schools. Expressions and equations are created from written statements and word phrases, and literal equations that have more than one variable are solved. Perimeter, area, volume and circumference formulas are used to solve problems in algebraic contexts.

In Language Arts, the students are immersed in a large amount of reading, such as literature from many eras, poetry, biographies, autobiographies, non-fiction informational text, and a variety of reading passages. Reading a large amount of different text enables the students to become more well-rounded readers and learners of specific content. The literature that the students read ties into other subject areas, like science and social studies, and increases the knowledge of subject specific content by reiterating.
