Educating Our Parents: Understanding the El Dorado at Santa Fe District Curriculum

The SFPS district is implementing the state mandated and approved curriculum called Common Core. Common Core provides a cohesive set of educational standards particularly in the area of English and Language Arts and Mathematics. In English and Language Arts, students focus on becoming literate in reading, writing, and speaking English. The Common Core curriculum is geared to preparing students to be able to be successful in college and in the workforce.

Students read both informational text and literature so that they are prepared for the type of reading material they could encounter on the job. An emphasis is placed on the development of critical analysis skills, listening and reading for information. In Mathematics, students learn core math skills such as computation, algebra, geometry, statistics, and measurement. Students learn to apply problem-solving and reasoning skills to real life situations and to build on their skills year by year.
